Bernardinho returned to the senior team at the end of 2023 and, alongside his role overseeing the wider men’s program, entered a structure designed to develop players toward the 2028 and 2032 Olympic cycles. By 2026, the change was visible in the senior selection itself: several long-serving names from the previous Olympic core had moved out of the regular group, while players such as Fernando Cachopa, Darlan Souza, Adriano Xavier, Henrique Honorato, Arthur Bento, Judson Nunes and Maique Reis were carrying larger roles around experienced figures including Ricardo Lucarelli and Flávio Gualberto. CBV president Radamés Lattari described the 2026 team as part of a process of construction and evolution built around the international development of a new generation.

The transition has not followed a straight line. Brazil won VNL bronze in 2025 but then failed to reach the knockout phase of the 2025 World Championship for the first time since 1970. A 7–5 preliminary record was not enough to reach the 2026 VNL Finals either. The response came in September: Brazil went undefeated and did not lose a set at the 2026 South American Championship, defeated Argentina 3–0 in the decisive match, reclaimed the continental title and secured places at both the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup.

As of the latest ranking snapshot after the 2026 continental championships, Brazil stands No. 6 in the FIVB Men’s World Ranking. The official Volleyball World ranking remains the canonical current source, and the rank should be treated as a changing snapshot rather than a permanent team attribute.

Team Information

Field

Detail

Official Team Name

Brazil Men’s National Volleyball Team

Native Name

Seleção Brasileira Masculina de Voleibol

Country

Brazil

Gender

Men

National Federation

Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol (CBV)

FIVB Code

BRA

Region / Confederation

South America — CSV

Head Coach

Bernardo “Bernardinho” Rocha de Rezende

Captain

Ricardo Lucarelli

FIVB World Ranking

No. 6 — View full FIVB rankings

Current National-Team Cycle

2026 senior season / LA28 cycle

Los Angeles 2028 Status

Qualified — 2026 South American champion

2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup

Qualified — 2026 South American Championship

Olympic Best Result

Champions — 1992, 2004, 2016

World Championship Best Result

Champions — 2002, 2006, 2010

Volleyball Nations League Best Result

Champions — 2021

South American Championship Best Result

Champions — 34 titles through 2026

Federation Website

Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol (CBV)

Federation Instagram

@cbvolei

Federation YouTube

Canal Vôlei Brasil

Brazil has competed in every Olympic men’s volleyball tournament since the sport entered the Games in 1964. Its Olympic record includes gold medals at Barcelona 1992, Athens 2004 and Rio 2016, plus silver medals at Los Angeles 1984, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Winning the 2026 South American Championship extended that uninterrupted Olympic participation through Los Angeles 2028.

Team History & Development

Brazil’s international history predates the championship-heavy era most closely associated with the modern program. By the early 1980s, the men’s team was already competing for major global medals. Brazil reached the 1982 World Championship final and then won Olympic silver at Los Angeles 1984, establishing a base for the generation that would produce the country’s first Olympic title.

That breakthrough came at Barcelona 1992. The gold medal changed the scale of expectations around the men’s program and introduced a generation that included players such as Marcelo Negrão and Giovane Gávio. Brazil was no longer simply a recurring international contender; Olympic championship success had become part of the program’s record.

The most sustained period arrived after Bernardinho took charge of the men’s team in the early 2000s. With a core that included Giba, Sérgio “Serginho” Santos, Ricardo Garcia, André Heller, Gustavo Endres, André Nascimento and later Bruno Rezende and Lucas Saatkamp, Brazil won the World Championship three consecutive times in 2002, 2006 and 2010. The team also won Olympic gold in Athens in 2004 and reached the Olympic final again in 2008 and 2012. Brazil’s former World League record became equally significant: the country won the competition a record nine times.

The Rio 2016 Olympic title became the final major achievement of Bernardinho’s first tenure. Brazil defeated Italy for gold on home soil, while veterans from different stages of the program — including Bruno, Lucão, Wallace, Lucarelli and Serginho — helped connect the team’s earlier championship culture with the generation that followed. Serginho ended his national-team career after becoming the only male volleyball player to appear in four consecutive Olympic finals, winning gold in 2004 and 2016 and silver in 2008 and 2012.

Renan Dal Zotto led the senior team after Bernardinho’s departure. Brazil won the inaugural major title of the VNL era in 2021 and later earned World Championship bronze in 2022, extending its World Championship podium streak to six editions from 2002 through 2022.

Bernardinho returned to the senior team for the 2024 season after eight years away. The move was part of a broader CBV plan that linked the adult team more deliberately with youth development and future Olympic cycles. After Paris 2024, the federation confirmed Bernardinho would continue through Los Angeles 2028 while also retaining oversight of the wider men’s national-team structure.

That broader development strategy matters to the current team. Brazil’s 2026 selection contains championship-experienced players, but it is no longer built around the veteran core of Bruno, Lucas Saatkamp, Yoandy Leal and other players who carried large roles during previous cycles. Lucarelli and Flávio provide continuity, while Cachopa, Darlan, Adriano, Honorato, Arthur Bento, Judson and Maique increasingly define the present senior group.

Brazil at the Olympic Games

Brazil has been part of every Olympic men’s volleyball tournament since Tokyo 1964. The medal record contains three golds and three silvers, spread across several generations.

The first medal was silver at Los Angeles 1984. Eight years later, Brazil won its first Olympic championship in Barcelona, defeating the Netherlands in the gold-medal match and establishing the 1992 team as one of the central reference points in Brazilian volleyball history.

The second gold arrived at Athens 2004 during the most successful stretch of Bernardinho’s first tenure. That group had already won the 2002 World Championship and would later add the 2006 and 2010 global titles. Brazil returned to the Olympic final in both Beijing 2008 and London 2012 but finished with silver.

Rio 2016 delivered the third gold. Brazil entered the home Olympics under significant pressure, recovered from an uneven preliminary phase and eventually defeated Italy in the final. For Serginho, Bruno, Wallace, Lucão and Lucarelli, the title linked players from different parts of the long Bernardinho era.

Brazil left Paris 2024 without a medal, but the following cycle quickly became tied to a broader rebuild. Unlike the qualification route for Paris, Brazil has already settled its Los Angeles status well in advance: the 2026 South American Championship title carried a direct Olympic quota. The win guarantees that Brazil’s uninterrupted Olympic participation will continue in 2028.

World Championship & Other Global Competitions

Brazil has won the men’s World Championship three times: 2002, 2006 and 2010. Those titles came consecutively and remain the defining global sequence of the Bernardinho era. Brazil also won silver in 1982, 2014 and 2018 and bronze in 2022.

The three-title sequence was built across changing versions of the same championship core. The 2002 victory began the run; the 2006 team defended the title in Japan; and the 2010 edition completed the three-peat. Giba was one of the defining players across all three victories, while Serginho was part of the first two and became one of the most influential liberos of his era.

Brazil then reached the final again in both 2014 and 2018, losing each time to Poland. The 2022 bronze extended Brazil’s World Championship medal streak to six consecutive editions — three golds, two silvers and one bronze between 2002 and 2022.

The streak ended sharply at the 2025 World Championship. Brazil finished its pool with two victories and one defeat, tied with Serbia and Czechia on six points, but the tiebreaking criteria left Brazil third in the group. The result eliminated the team before the knockout rounds for the first time since 1970.

That tournament became one of the clearest signals that the transition between generations could not be measured simply by Brazil’s historical medal standard. The next season consequently placed more emphasis on widening the senior group and giving newer players international volume.

Brazil has already secured its place in the next global championship. Beginning in 2027, the former FIVB Volleyball World Championship will officially use the name FIVB Volleyball World Cup. The 2027 men’s edition will be held in Poland, and Brazil qualified by finishing among the top three at the 2026 South American Championship.

Brazil’s global record also includes a record nine FIVB World League titles. Those championships belong to the predecessor competition and should remain separate from Brazil’s Volleyball Nations League record.

Brazil in the Volleyball Nations League

Brazil won its first Volleyball Nations League title in 2021, defeating Poland 3–1 in the final in Rimini. Wallace de Souza scored 22 points as Brazil recovered after losing the opening set and won 22–25, 25–23, 25–16, 25–14.

The next VNL podium came in 2025. Brazil entered the Finals after finishing first in the preliminary standings with an 11–1 record, then ultimately took bronze by defeating Slovenia 3–1 in the third-place match. Alan Souza led Brazil with 18 points. It was Brazil’s second VNL medal after the 2021 championship.

The 2026 campaign was more useful as a window into the transition than as a continuation of that podium sequence. Brazil opened the competition with four consecutive victories in Brasília, then lost three straight matches during the second week in Ljubljana before defeating Canada. The final week in Chicago left Brazil needing results against a difficult group of opponents.

Brazil eventually completed the preliminary phase at 7–5 after a straight-set win over China but did not advance to the Finals. After the campaign, CBV president Radamés Lattari publicly framed the result within a longer development process, pointing to the technical potential of a new generation and the need for more international experience.

That context is important because the 2026 VNL did not use one fixed 14-player squad. Bernardinho changed match selections across the three weeks, while the federation’s broader registration contained 30 players. Later preparation groups were reduced again before the South American Championship. The VNL therefore provides tournament evidence, not a permanent definition of Brazil’s current senior pool.

South American Championship

Brazil’s relationship with the South American Championship is different from its record in global tournaments because the competition has historically been a recurring foundation of the national-team calendar. In 2026, however, the championship carried unusually high strategic importance: the title included a direct Los Angeles 2028 Olympic berth, while the top three teams also qualified for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup.

2026 South American Championship Roster — Event-Specific

Bernardinho selected the following 14 players for the tournament in Rio de Janeiro. This was the final South American Championship roster, not Brazil’s broad 2026 senior selection.

Player

Position

Fernando Kreling (Cachopa)

Setter

Matheus Brasília

Setter

Darlan Souza

Opposite

Bryan Lucas

Opposite

Ricardo Lucarelli

Outside Hitter

Adriano Xavier

Outside Hitter

Henrique Honorato

Outside Hitter

Arthur Bento

Outside Hitter

Lukas Bergmann

Outside Hitter

Flávio Gualberto

Middle Blocker

Judson Nunes

Middle Blocker

Matheus Pinta

Middle Blocker

Maique Reis

Libero

Douglas Pureza

Libero

Brazil won all five matches without dropping a set. After victories over Chile, Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela, the final round-robin match against Argentina effectively decided the championship. Brazil won 25–20, 25–23, 25–20 before 11,968 spectators at the Maracanãzinho. Darlan scored a match-high 23 points.

The title was Brazil’s 34th South American men’s championship. Lucarelli was named tournament MVP; Cachopa received Best Setter, Darlan Best Opposite, Adriano one of the two Best Outside Hitter awards and Flávio one of the two Best Middle Blocker selections.

The final also provided one of the clearest tactical snapshots of the current group. Lucarelli highlighted Brazil’s serving pressure after the match, while Darlan’s scoring again showed how central the opposite position has become to the present offense. More importantly for the program, the victory converted the rebuilding season into confirmed qualification for both LA28 and the 2027 World Cup.

2026 Current National Team Pool

CBV does not currently publish a separate annual registered-member page comparable to the broad pool systems used by some other national federations. The strongest official broad senior selection available for Brazil in 2026 is the 30-player registration submitted for the Volleyball Nations League on May 19. CBV subsequently worked with smaller training groups, match rosters and the 14-player South American squad, so the table below should be understood as the broad 2026 senior registration pool rather than a claim that all 30 players remained active at every stage of the season.

Current club affiliations are a 2026/27 snapshot. They reflect the players’ latest professional destinations rather than the clubs attached to earlier national-team registrations. Current official club rosters confirm, among others, the 2026/27 groups at Itas Trentino, Itambé Minas, Praia Clube/Uberlândia, SESI Bauru, Pallavolo Padova, Valsa Group Modena, JTEKT STINGS Aichi, Suzano and Halkbank.

Player

Position

Club

Height

Gabriel Bieler

Setter

Suzano Vôlei

185 cm

Fernando Kreling (Cachopa)

Setter

Fenerbahçe Medicana

186 cm

Matheus Brasília

Setter

Sada Cruzeiro

185 cm

Rhendrick Resley

Setter

Praia Clube/Uberlândia

184 cm

Adriano Xavier

Outside Hitter

Itas Trentino

201 cm

Arthur Bento

Outside Hitter

Valsa Group Modena

205 cm

Douglas Souza

Outside Hitter

Vôlei Renata

199 cm

Henrique Honorato

Outside Hitter

Itambé Minas

190 cm

Leonardo Lukas Leodolter

Outside Hitter

Pallavolo Padova

203 cm

Ricardo Lucarelli

Outside Hitter

Itambé Minas

196 cm

Lukas Bergmann

Outside Hitter

Tinet Prata di Pordenone

204 cm

Maicon França

Outside Hitter

PAOK Thessaloniki

218 cm

Paulo Vinícius

Outside Hitter

Praia Clube/Uberlândia

198 cm

Robert

Outside Hitter

Suzano Vôlei

198 cm

Bryan Lucas

Opposite

Itambé Minas

204 cm

Chizoba Neves

Opposite

Nippon Steel Sakai Blazers

200 cm

Darlan Souza

Opposite

Halkbank Ankara

192 cm

Welinton Oppenkoski

Opposite

Sada Cruzeiro

195 cm

Guilherme Sabino

Opposite

Suzano Vôlei

201 cm

Samuel Neufeld

Opposite

SESI Bauru

204 cm

Lucas Barreto

Middle Blocker

SESI Bauru

207 cm

Flávio Gualberto

Middle Blocker

Itas Trentino

199 cm

Guilherme Voss

Middle Blocker

Praia Clube/Uberlândia

200 cm

Judson Nunes

Middle Blocker

JTEKT STINGS Aichi

204 cm

Matheus Pinta

Middle Blocker

Vôlei Renata

207 cm

Thiery Nascimento

Middle Blocker

SESI Bauru

204 cm

Alexandre “Alê” Elias

Libero

Sada Cruzeiro

190 cm

Filipe “Filipinho” Stolberg

Libero

Praia Clube/Uberlândia

173 cm

Maique Reis

Libero

Itambé Minas

187 cm

Douglas Pureza

Libero

SESI Bauru

179 cm

Several rows illustrate why the club field requires its own currentness pass. Adriano and Flávio are together at Trentino, Arthur Bento is with Modena, Darlan moved to Halkbank, Léo Lukas joined Padova, Douglas Souza and Matheus Pinta are with Vôlei Renata, while the Minas group includes Lucarelli, Honorato, Bryan and Maique.

The 30-player registration should not be mistaken for the final VNL match roster. Some registered players were used during specific weeks, others remained outside individual 14-player selections, and later preparation moved toward a much narrower core. By August, Bernardinho had selected 16 players for the South American preparation phase; by September, the championship roster had been cut to 14.

That distinction is particularly relevant to players such as those who appeared on the broad registration but were not part of the final continental campaign. The canonical pool preserves the widest official 2026 senior selection available while event sections preserve the narrower competitive squads in their correct scope.

Coaching Staff

CBV’s 2026 material continues to identify Bernardinho as head coach and Rubinho as an assistant coach with the senior men’s national team. Rubinho was also part of the federation’s 2026 international monitoring program, observing Brazilian players and opponents in Europe ahead of the national-team season.

Role

Name

Organization / Club

Head Coach

Bernardo “Bernardinho” Rocha de Rezende

Brazil / CBV

Assistant Coach

Roberley “Rubinho” Leonaldo

Brazil / CBV

The senior support structure around the team can vary between training periods and competitions. The stable coaching leadership in the current LA28 cycle is Bernardinho, whose contract was extended through the Games, with Rubinho continuing within the senior men’s staff.

Bernardinho’s current role goes beyond managing the senior match roster. CBV’s post-Paris structure retained him as both senior head coach and technical coordinator of the men’s national-team program, linking the senior group with younger national-team levels. That broader responsibility helps explain why roster development has remained a visible priority even when short-term tournament results have fluctuated.

Playing Identity & Tactical Profile

The current Brazil team is less settled than the dominant groups of the 2000s, but several tactical reference points are already visible.

Fernando Cachopa increasingly organizes the first phase of the offense. Brazil’s broader 2026 registration included several setters, but Cachopa remained part of the progressively smaller groups that moved from VNL play into the South American preparation period and the final championship squad. His Best Setter award at the South American Championship reflected his role in a team that completed five straight 3–0 victories.

Darlan has become a primary high-volume attacking option. His left-handed attack, serving pressure and ability to handle difficult balls give Brazil a clear scoring reference from opposite. He led Brazil with 23 points in the championship-clinching win against Argentina and was selected as the tournament’s Best Opposite. Bryan Lucas provides a physically different alternative and also carried significant scoring responsibility during the continental tournament.

Lucarelli remains the bridge between generations. Rather than serving only as a veteran presence, he continues to carry reception, serving and leadership responsibility. CBV consistently identified him as captain during the 2026 season, and his South American Championship MVP award came after a tournament in which Brazil did not lose a set.

The outside-hitter rotation provides several different balances. Adriano, Honorato and Arthur Bento all appeared in the narrow late-season core alongside Lucarelli, while Lukas Bergmann returned for the final continental roster. Adriano earned a Best Outside Hitter award at the South American Championship, reinforcing his growing place within the current group.

Middle-blocker selection has also moved toward a newer group. Flávio is the experienced reference, but Judson and Matheus Pinta were retained in the 14-player championship squad, while Barreto remained close to the group during the preceding preparation phase. Flávio received one of the South American Championship’s Best Middle Blocker awards.

Serving pressure was especially important in the decisive continental match. After beating Argentina, Lucarelli specifically pointed to Brazil’s ability to apply pressure from the service line. That description fits the current personnel: Darlan, Lucarelli, Adriano and the middle blockers can all create direct or second-ball advantages when the serve moves opponents away from ideal reception.

The main caution is that this identity is still developing. Brazil’s 2026 VNL exposed periods in which reception, side-out continuity and point-ending under pressure were less stable against top opposition. The federation itself framed the campaign as part of a learning process for a younger generation rather than presenting the system as finished. The South American title showed progress, but the level of opposition at future VNL, World Cup and Olympic stages will provide a different test.

Major Honors

Competition

Best / Major Results

Olympic Games

Gold: 1992, 2004, 2016; Silver: 1984, 2008, 2012

FIVB Men’s World Championship

Gold: 2002, 2006, 2010; Silver: 1982, 2014, 2018; Bronze: 2022

Volleyball Nations League

Gold: 2021; Bronze: 2025

FIVB World League

Nine championships — competition record

South American Championship

34 championships through 2026

Brazil’s Olympic and World Championship records cover several different generations rather than one continuous team. The 1992 Olympic champions preceded the dominant Bernardinho era, the 2004 team combined Olympic success with a run of three consecutive World Championships, and the 2016 gold came with another evolved roster more than a decade later.

The World League record belongs to a separate competition era from the VNL. Brazil won a record nine World League championships before the competition ended in 2017, then added its first VNL championship in 2021.

Notable Players Across Generations

Player

Position

Era / Years

Note

Renan Dal Zotto

Outside Hitter

1980s

Member of Brazil’s first Olympic medal generation and later head coach of the senior national team.

Marcelo Negrão

Opposite

Late 1980s–1990s

Central attacking figure in Brazil’s first Olympic championship at Barcelona 1992.

Giovane Gávio

Outside Hitter

1990s–2000s

Won Olympic gold in both 1992 and 2004, bridging two title-winning generations.

Giba

Outside Hitter

1990s–2010s

Olympic champion in 2004 and world champion in 2002, 2006 and 2010; one of the defining players of Brazil’s most successful sustained era.

Sérgio “Serginho” Santos

Libero

2001–2016

Appeared in four consecutive Olympic finals, winning two golds and two silvers; a defining libero of the Bernardinho era.

Bruno Rezende

Setter

2000s–2020s

Long-term setter and captain across multiple Olympic, World Championship and international cycles.

Lucas “Lucão” Saatkamp

Middle Blocker

2000s–2020s

Long-serving middle blocker and major part of Brazil’s Rio 2016 Olympic championship generation.

Wallace de Souza

Opposite

2010s–2020s

Rio 2016 Olympic champion and leading scorer in Brazil’s 2021 VNL final victory.

Ricardo Lucarelli

Outside Hitter

2010s–present

Olympic champion, current captain and MVP of the 2026 South American Championship.

Fernando Kreling (Cachopa)

Setter

2010s–present

Current-generation setter and Best Setter at the 2026 South American Championship.

Darlan Souza

Opposite

2020s–present

Major scoring reference of the current cycle; 2022 World Championship bronze, 2025 VNL bronze and 2026 continental champion.

Giba’s international résumé includes the 2004 Olympic title, silver medals in 2008 and 2012 and all three consecutive World Championship championships between 2002 and 2010. He also won eight World League titles during his national-team career.

Serginho’s career overlapped almost exactly with Brazil’s longest period of sustained global success. His four consecutive Olympic finals remain unique among male volleyball players, while his national-team record also included World Championships, World Cups, Grand Champions Cups and seven World League titles.

The current notable-player group is still being defined. Lucarelli already connects the Rio 2016 champions with the present team, while Cachopa and Darlan have assumed roles that could make them central to the LA28 cycle. Adriano, Arthur Bento, Honorato, Judson and Maique are among the players whose long-term position within that generation remains tied to the next two international seasons.

Rivalries & Key Matchups

Argentina is Brazil’s most persistent continental reference point. The teams repeatedly meet in South American competition, and Argentina’s rise has made the matchup more consequential than a simple reflection of Brazil’s historical title count. In 2026, the tournament format placed the unbeaten teams against each other in the final round with the championship and Olympic qualification effectively at stake. Brazil’s 3–0 victory reclaimed the continental crown and secured LA28 qualification.

Poland has produced some of Brazil’s most significant global matches of the modern era. Brazil defeated Poland in the 2006 World Championship final, while Poland beat Brazil in the 2014 and 2018 World Championship finals. The teams met again for the 2021 VNL title, when Brazil won 3–1. Those results span different player generations and coaching cycles, making the matchup useful as a recurring measure of Brazil against another long-term elite program.

The 2026 VNL also illustrated the current distance Brazil is trying to close against the strongest teams. Brazil faced France, the United States and Poland in consecutive matches during the final preliminary week, part of a schedule that placed a developing roster against established high-level opponents under qualification pressure.

Qualification Path & Tournament Cycle

Brazil has already secured the two major qualification outcomes that mattered most in the second half of 2026.

The first is Los Angeles 2028. The champion of the 2026 South American Championship received the CSV direct Olympic quota, and Brazil claimed it by defeating Argentina 3–0 on September 20. The qualification means Brazil will maintain its uninterrupted run of appearances in Olympic men’s volleyball since 1964.

The second is the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup in Poland. Brazil actually secured that place one match earlier, when its fourth consecutive South American victory guaranteed a top-three finish. Brazil, Argentina and Chile ultimately took the three CSV qualification positions.

The naming of the 2027 event requires some historical care. The competition previously known as the FIVB Volleyball World Championship will use the FIVB Volleyball World Cup name beginning with the 2027 edition. This is not the same historical format as the older World Cup tournament in which Brazil also competed.

Because Brazil has already earned the LA28 place through continental qualification, its current FIVB ranking no longer determines whether it reaches the Olympics. Ranking remains important for international context, tournament positioning and the broader competitive picture, but Brazil does not need to rely on the later ranking qualification route.

Brazil in 2026

Brazil closes the main 2026 national-team season in a stronger strategic position than its VNL performance suggested in July. The team is No. 6 in the current world ranking, has reclaimed the South American championship, has qualified for Los Angeles 2028, and has secured a place at the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup. Bernardinho remains head coach and Ricardo Lucarelli remains captain.

The competitive picture is more nuanced. Brazil’s 2025 World Championship group-stage elimination and failure to reach the 2026 VNL Finals show that the team has not yet reproduced the consistency of earlier Brazilian championship generations. Those setbacks are significant precisely because they sit alongside evidence of development: a VNL bronze in 2025, broader senior-team experimentation in 2026 and an unbeaten continental qualification campaign later in the season.

The South American title also clarified the emerging hierarchy within the group. Lucarelli remains the captain and experienced reference; Cachopa controls the primary setting role; Darlan provides a major scoring outlet; Adriano and Honorato have grown into meaningful outside-hitter responsibilities; and Flávio, Judson, Pinta, Maique and Pureza form much of the current middle and defensive structure.

For the next stage of the cycle, Brazil no longer has to chase Olympic qualification. The more important question is whether the current generation can turn the progress shown in September into sustained results against the deepest international fields at the 2027 World Cup, future VNL seasons and ultimately Los Angeles 2028.

Recent Performance Snapshot

Date / Competition

Result

Context

September 20, 2026 — South American Championship

Champion

Defeated Argentina 3–0; completed a 5–0 tournament without losing a set; secured LA28 qualification; Ricardo Lucarelli named MVP.

July 19, 2026 — Volleyball Nations League

Preliminary phase completed at 7–5

Defeated China 3–0 in the final match but did not reach the Finals.

September 2025 — FIVB Men’s World Championship

Eliminated in pool stage

Finished outside the knockout qualification positions despite two victories; first World Championship elimination before the knockout stage since 1970.

August 3, 2025 — Volleyball Nations League

Bronze

Defeated Slovenia 3–1 in the third-place match; Brazil’s second VNL podium.

Brazil’s September 2026 tournament was a meaningful reversal from the previous twelve months. Brazil did not publish a separate annual registered-member pool, so that 30-player registration is the strongest available broad senior selection. Individual match and championship squads were substantially smaller.

Was the 2026 South American roster Brazil’s full current pool?

No. The South American Championship roster contained 14 players and was specific to that tournament. It should remain separate from the broader 30-player senior registration used in the Current National Team Pool section.

How many Olympic gold medals has Brazil won in men’s volleyball?

Brazil has won three Olympic gold medals: 1992, 2004 and 2016.
