Coached by Andrea Giani and captained by Antoine Brizard, France enters the post-EuroVolley 2026 period as the back-to-back Olympic champion, having won gold at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. The program’s modern record also includes the 2015 European Championship, World League titles in 2015 and 2017, VNL championships in 2022 and 2024, and a World Championship bronze medal from 2002.

The 2026 season represented an important reshaping of the senior team. Benjamin Toniutti retired from international volleyball, while several established double Olympic champions — Jean Patry, Yacine Louati, Jenia Grebennikov, Barthélémy Chinenyeze, Earvin Ngapeth and Nicolas Le Goff — took an international break. Giani responded with a 20-player working group designed to give younger players sustained senior experience, naming Brizard captain and Trévor Clevenot vice-captain. France finished outside the VNL Finals but developed through the summer and then reached the EuroVolley final, where Poland won 3–1. The silver medal also secured France a place at the 2027 global championship.

France is No. 8 in the FIVB Men’s World Ranking in the latest ranking context checked on October 3, 2026. The same announcement framed the season around a long-term senior group intended to develop through both the VNL and European Championship rather than around one tournament roster.

Team History & Development

France’s current status at the top end of international volleyball is comparatively recent when set against the full history of the national team. France had reached European Championship finals and regularly appeared in major international competitions long before its first championship titles, but the program did not convert that presence into an Olympic, world-level or continental gold medal until the 2010s.

One important breakthrough came at the 2002 FIVB Men’s World Championship in Argentina, where France finished third. It remains France’s only World Championship medal. The bronze established a global benchmark that later French teams repeatedly approached — including a semifinal appearance in 2014 — without yet surpassing it.

The Laurent Tillie era transformed the national team’s trophy record. Tillie took charge in 2012 and eventually led a generation built around players including Benjamin Toniutti, Earvin Ngapeth, Jenia Grebennikov, Kevin Tillie, Nicolas Le Goff and later Antoine Brizard, Jean Patry and Trévor Clevenot. France won its first World League title in 2015, then claimed its first European Championship later the same year. A second World League title followed in 2017. FFVolley has described those achievements as the first major titles of the men’s national team.

The culmination of that cycle came at the Tokyo Olympics, held in 2021. France entered the tournament without an Olympic medal in men’s volleyball and left as champion. The title changed the reference point for the program: a team that had previously built its modern identity around VNL/World League and continental success was now an Olympic champion.

Andrea Giani took over the senior national team in 2022. Rather than dismantling the Olympic core, his first cycle largely extended it. France won the 2022 Volleyball Nations League, reached fifth place at the 2022 World Championship and then won the 2024 VNL shortly before the Paris Olympics.

Paris 2024 provided the defining result of the Giani era. Playing a home Olympic tournament, France successfully defended its title and became back-to-back Olympic champion. Several of the Tokyo champions remained central, but the second gold also demonstrated the group’s ability to evolve around different lineups, changing club situations and a longer period of international scrutiny.

The next transition became much more explicit in 2026. Toniutti ended his international career, while Patry, Louati, Grebennikov, Chinenyeze, Ngapeth and Le Goff requested a summer away from the national team after years of continuous club and international schedules. Giani accepted those requests and said the team needed significant player changes in the coming years. His April selection therefore mixed experienced Olympic champions with younger players who had either limited senior exposure or were entering the group for the first time.

Brizard and Clevenot became the leadership pair for that process. Behind them, players such as Mathis Henno, Antoine Pothron, Thomas Pujol, Daniel Iyegbekedo, Haukea Maré and others were given a longer runway to adapt to senior international volleyball. Giani described the aim as building a new group and a new identity rather than using young players for only a handful of matches.

The results were uneven at first. France did not qualify for the 2026 VNL Finals and finished 11th in the competition’s final standings, but the European Championship two months later showed a more developed version of the same process. France reached the final, secured World Cup qualification and finished with silver behind Poland.

France at the Olympic Games

Olympic success is now the central distinction of France’s modern men’s national-team history. France won its first Olympic volleyball medal and first Olympic championship at Tokyo 2020, played in 2021, then successfully defended the title at Paris 2024. FFVolley lists both editions as Olympic championship victories.

The Tokyo title came at the end of Laurent Tillie’s tenure and represented the culmination of a generation that had already changed French volleyball through the 2015 European Championship and two World League titles. Players such as Ngapeth, Toniutti, Grebennikov, Patry, Le Goff, Clevenot and Brizard established themselves within a group capable of surviving difficult tournament phases and still producing its best volleyball in elimination matches.

Paris 2024 tested whether that success could be repeated under Giani. France reached the knockout phase and again navigated the high-pressure stages of the tournament before defeating Poland in the gold-medal match. The second consecutive championship placed France among a very small group of men’s national teams capable of defending an Olympic volleyball title.

The two victories also shaped the 2026 rebuild. Giani was not introducing younger players into a team without a recent reference point; he was changing a group whose senior standard was two consecutive Olympic championships. His April 2026 comments repeatedly returned to the responsibility created by that status and the need for new players to understand the expectations attached to representing the reigning Olympic champion.

France has not yet secured a place at Los Angeles 2028. Under the current system, each 2026 continental champion earns one direct Olympic berth. Poland claimed Europe’s quota by defeating France in the EuroVolley final. France’s remaining pathways are the 2027 World Cup, where the three highest-finishing teams not already qualified will earn Olympic places, and finally the FIVB World Ranking after the 2028 VNL preliminary phase.

World Championship & Other Global Competitions

France’s best result at the men’s World Championship remains the bronze medal won in 2002. Brazil won the title that year, Russia finished second and France completed the podium. It remains the only World Championship medal in French men’s volleyball history.

The national team came close to another medal in 2014, reaching the semifinals during a period when the Tillie group was developing toward its 2015 breakthrough. France later finished seventh in 2018 and fifth in 2022.

The 2025 World Championship produced a very different result. France entered as the reigning Olympic and VNL champion but was eliminated in the opening phase. After beginning with a 3–0 victory over South Korea, France lost five-set matches to Finland and Argentina. FFVolley records the tournament finish as 18th place.

That result provided important context for the 2026 transition. Several of the established Olympic players subsequently took an international break, while Giani used the next season to give a younger group sustained time together. The approach was therefore not simply a reaction to aging players; it followed a World Championship in which the established team had not converted its status into progression beyond the first round.

France has already qualified for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup. The qualification was secured by reaching the final stages of EuroVolley 2026. France, Finland and Slovenia joined host Poland as Europe’s confirmed qualifiers after the quarterfinal round, and France ultimately finished with the silver medal.

The 2027 tournament will also carry direct Olympic consequences. The three highest-finishing teams that have not already qualified for Los Angeles 2028 will receive Olympic quota places. France therefore enters the next global championship with both a major tournament objective and a direct qualification opportunity.

France in the Volleyball Nations League

France has one of the strongest VNL records of the current era. The team reached the final in the inaugural 2018 edition and earned silver, followed by bronze in 2021. France then won the competition in 2022 and again in 2024, making the VNL a major part of the program’s modern championship record.

The 2024 title carried particular importance because it arrived immediately before the Paris Olympics. France used the competition not merely as preparation but as a high-level tournament in its own right, and the championship established momentum before the Olympic gold-medal run.

The next two editions produced different outcomes. France finished fifth in 2025 and entered the 2026 VNL with a significantly changed squad. The absence of Patry, Ngapeth, Grebennikov, Chinenyeze, Le Goff and Louati meant the tournament became the first extended test of Giani’s new group.

France finished the 2026 preliminary phase in 10th place, with six wins and six losses and 16 standings points. Because the VNL Finals can alter the final ordering of qualified teams, France is listed 11th in the official final standings after the tournament concluded.

The performance was more useful developmentally than competitively. Mathis Henno carried a significant attacking load during the preliminary phase; Daniel Iyegbekedo received substantial senior minutes in the middle; Antoine Pothron, Thomas Pujol, Luca Ramon, Moussé Gueye, François Huetz and other members of the newer group were exposed to repeated matches against international opposition. Volleyball World’s 2026 player records show Mathis Henno among France’s high-volume scorers and Iyegbekedo contributing regularly in both attack and block.

The tournament also illustrates why France’s current national-team pool cannot be reconstructed from one weekly VNL roster. Individual 14-player selections changed during the competition, while the broader season group announced by Giani contained 20 players. Event-specific additions such as Noa Duflos-Rossi later became relevant during the European Championship without turning the EuroVolley squad into the canonical annual pool.

European Championship Record

France won its first European Championship in 2015, defeating Slovenia in the final during the breakout season that also included the country’s first World League title. Eleven years later, France returned to the continental final at EuroVolley 2026.

The 2026 final was the sixth European Championship final in French men’s volleyball history. Before the 2015 title, France had finished runner-up in 1948, 1987, 2003 and 2009. The 2026 tournament added another silver medal.

France progressed convincingly through much of EuroVolley 2026. In pool play, the team defeated Switzerland 3–0, Türkiye 3–0, Latvia 3–1 and Germany 3–0 before losing 3–2 to Romania. France then swept Portugal in the round of 16 and Romania in the quarterfinal before beating Finland 3–1 in the semifinal.

The final against Poland was more difficult. Poland won 31–29, 25–19, 20–25, 25–16, securing its third European title and the continent’s direct LA28 quota. France finished second but had already qualified for the 2027 World Cup by reaching the medal stage.

2026 EuroVolley Final Roster — Event-Specific

The 14 players below were selected for EuroVolley 2026. Duflos-Rossi was not part of Giani’s original 20-player April list but moved into a major championship role. Conversely, several players from that broad working group were not selected for EuroVolley. The two lists therefore describe different scopes and should remain separate.

2026 Current National Team Pool

On April 17, 2026, Giani and FFVolley announced a 20-player senior working group for the international season. Giani explicitly said that he intended to work with the group across the season rather than use the new players for only three or four matches. Because FFVolley has not published a later replacement annual pool in the same broad format, this 20-player group is the strongest official source for France’s canonical 2026 senior selection. Competition-specific changes remain documented inside their relevant tournament sections.

The Club column below reflects current 2026/27 affiliations rather than simply reproducing the clubs listed when the pool was announced in April.

Player

Position

Club

Height

Antoine Brizard

Setter

Osaka Bluteon

196 cm

Amir Tizi-Oualou

Setter

Valsa Group Modena

197 cm

Thomas Gill

Setter

Chaumont VB 52

196 cm

Trévor Clevenot

Outside Hitter

Ziraat Bankkart Ankara

199 cm

Mathis Henno

Outside Hitter

Sir Susa Scai Perugia

193 cm

Hilir Henno

Outside Hitter

Shanghai Bright

203 cm

Antoine Pothron

Outside Hitter

PGE GiEK SKRA Bełchatów

198 cm

Timothée Carle

Outside Hitter

Panathinaikos

195 cm

Thomas Pujol

Outside Hitter

ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle

198 cm

Théo Faure

Opposite

Itas Trentino

202 cm

Stephen Boyer

Opposite

JTEKT Stings Aichi

196 cm

Nathan Feral

Opposite

MA Acqua S.Bernardo Cuneo

197 cm

Benjamin Diez

Libero

AS Cannes

183 cm

Luca Ramon

Libero

Tours Volley-Ball

186 cm

François Huetz

Middle Blocker

Tours Volley-Ball

202 cm

Joris Seddik

Middle Blocker

Chaumont VB 52

213 cm

Daniel Iyegbekedo

Middle Blocker

Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza

205 cm

Haukea Maré

Middle Blocker

Montpellier HSC VB

200 cm

Moussé Gueye

Middle Blocker

BOGDANKA LUK Lublin

198 cm

Simon Magnin

Middle Blocker

Alterna Stade Poitevin

200 cm

The original group contained three setters, six outside hitters, three opposites, two liberos and six middle blockers. Thomas Pujol moved from Poitiers to ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, while Joris Seddik joined Chaumont after his season with Piacenza. Seddik subsequently suffered a significant injury while with the national-team program and was unavailable for the EuroVolley roster. Moussé Gueye moved from Barkom Każany Lwów to BOGDANKA LUK Lublin for 2026/27.

Mathis Henno moved to Perugia, Benjamin Diez to Cannes and François Huetz to Tours, while the EuroVolley announcement confirms the current clubs for those players and the rest of France’s final European Championship group.

Hilir Henno began the new club season with Shanghai Bright after his 2025/26 campaign in Lublin, while Timothée Carle moved on from Wolfdogs Nagoya to Panathinaikos. His 2026 task differed from the first half of his tenure because the summer was deliberately built around replacing or resting several established players and transferring more responsibility to Brizard, Clevenot and a younger supporting group.

The captaincy change is part of the same transition. Benjamin Toniutti had been one of the defining leaders of the Olympic championship generation, but his international retirement opened the role for Brizard. Giani selected Clevenot as vice-captain, giving the new senior group two leaders who already understood the expectations created by the Tokyo and Paris titles.

Playing Identity & Tactical Profile

France’s current tactical identity needs to be separated from the exact structure of the Tokyo and Paris Olympic teams. Six major veterans sat out the 2026 national-team season, Toniutti retired internationally, and the middle-blocker, libero and outside-hitter rotations changed substantially. The most useful description is therefore of Giani’s current 2026 group, not of a timeless French national style.

Antoine Brizard is now both the primary organizational reference and the captain. His setting range has long allowed France to change tempo and attacking location quickly, but the leadership context is new. In the earlier Olympic cycle he could share responsibility with Toniutti and a large veteran core. The current group asks him to organize less-established international attackers while also carrying formal captaincy responsibility.

The setter depth behind him is younger. Amir Tizi-Oualou played throughout the 2026 season and reached the EuroVolley final roster, while Thomas Gill was selected in the original broad group. This gives Giani alternatives without pretending that all three setters currently occupy equivalent roles.

France’s outside-hitter structure changed significantly in 2026. Ngapeth and Louati were absent for the summer, leaving Clevenot as the experienced reference. Mathis Henno became one of the main attacking options during the VNL, while Pothron, Pujol and eventually Duflos-Rossi received meaningful senior opportunities. Mathis Henno’s VNL numbers show the scale of his responsibility: Volleyball World recorded 189 points across the competition, with 165 coming in attack.

That newer wing group changes the balance of the team. Clevenot brings Olympic-level experience in both attacking and reception, but several of the players around him are still building an international sample. The 2026 season therefore involved more variation from match to match than the settled Olympic core often required.

The opposite position retained more senior stability. Stephen Boyer and Théo Faure both belonged to the 20-player group and later made the EuroVolley roster. Boyer carried a large scoring role during parts of the VNL, while Faure offers a different attacking profile and continued his club development at Trentino. Nathan Feral provided another option in the wider pool.

The middle-blocker group was one of the clearest development areas. France spent 2026 without Le Goff and Chinenyeze in the regular summer group, opening substantial minutes for Huetz, Iyegbekedo, Gueye, Magnin, Seddik and Maré. Iyegbekedo, still only 19 during the VNL, recorded 73 tournament points, including 23 blocks, according to Volleyball World. Huetz also became a significant attacking and blocking contributor.

The European Championship roster eventually narrowed the middle group to Gueye, Huetz, Iyegbekedo and Magnin. That quartet had considerably less combined Olympic-level experience than the previous Chinenyeze–Le Goff core, yet France still reached the continental final.

Libero was another major change. Grebennikov’s international pause removed one of the central figures of France’s two Olympic titles from the 2026 structure. Benjamin Diez and Luca Ramon became the two liberos in the EuroVolley squad, turning back-court organization into another area where responsibilities had to be redistributed.

The EuroVolley knockout run suggested that the new group had begun to settle. France swept Portugal and Romania, then beat Finland in four sets before losing to Poland in the final. The matches do not establish a finished LA28 system, but they show that the rebuilt roster was already capable of reaching a major final within its first full season together.

The most accurate current identity is therefore a team still built around technical flexibility and multiple attacking options, but with leadership and responsibility shifting from the long-established Olympic core toward Brizard, Clevenot and a younger generation. How much of the resting veteran group returns in later seasons will materially affect France’s final LA28 structure.

Major Honors

Competition

Best / Major Results

Olympic Games

Gold: Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024

FIVB Men’s World Championship

Bronze: 2002

Volleyball Nations League

Gold: 2022, 2024; Silver: 2018; Bronze: 2021

FIVB World League

Gold: 2015, 2017; Bronze: 2016

CEV European Championship

Gold: 2015; Silver: 1948, 1987, 2003, 2009, 2026

The Olympic championships are the defining honors of the current era. France became Olympic champion for the first time at Tokyo and then defended the title at Paris, while its VNL victories in 2022 and 2024 gave Giani major titles on both sides of the second Olympic success.

The World Championship remains the major senior competition France has not won. The 2002 bronze is still its only medal at that level, even after the program’s later Olympic and VNL breakthroughs.

At European level, France’s 2026 silver added a fifth runner-up finish to the single championship won in 2015. FFVolley identified the Poland match as the sixth European final in French men’s history after 1948, 1987, 2003, 2009 and 2015.

Notable Players Across Generations

Player

Position

Era / Years

Note

Laurent Tillie

Outside Hitter

1980s–1990s

Long-serving international who later coached France through its first major titles and the Tokyo Olympic championship.

Stéphane Antiga

Outside Hitter

1990s–2000s

Important player across France’s pre-title modern era and the generation that won World Championship bronze in 2002.

Earvin Ngapeth

Outside Hitter

2010s–present

Central attacking and creative figure in France’s first European, World League and Olympic championship era.

Jenia Grebennikov

Libero

2010s–present

Defensive reference of the modern championship generation and double Olympic champion.

Benjamin Toniutti

Setter

2010s–2026

Long-time captain and setter; European champion, World League champion and Olympic champion before retiring internationally in 2026.

Jean Patry

Opposite

Late 2010s–present

Major opposite of the Tokyo and Paris Olympic championship teams.

Nicolas Le Goff

Middle Blocker

2010s–present

Long-serving middle blocker and member of both Olympic championship teams.

Antoine Brizard

Setter

2010s–present

Double Olympic champion and current captain of the 2026 senior group.

Trévor Clevenot

Outside Hitter

2010s–present

Double Olympic champion and current vice-captain; experienced reference in the rebuilt 2026 outside-hitter group.

Théo Faure

Opposite

2020s–present

Established current-cycle opposite and part of France’s 2026 EuroVolley silver-medal roster.

Mathis Henno

Outside Hitter

2020s–present

Young outside hitter who assumed a substantially larger attacking role during the 2026 transition.

Toniutti’s retirement was particularly important because it changed more than one lineup position. He had been both setter and captain through much of France’s championship era. Giani’s decision to move the captaincy to Brizard and vice-captaincy to Clevenot therefore formalized a leadership transition that was already occurring on court.

Ngapeth, Grebennikov, Patry and Le Goff should not be described as permanently removed from the national team merely because they were absent in 2026. Giani said the players requested an international break and that most had indicated willingness to return if serious injury problems required it. Their longer-term status must therefore remain distinct from Toniutti’s confirmed international retirement.

Rivalries & Key Matchups

Poland is one of the most consequential current matchups for France. The two teams met in the Paris 2024 Olympic final, where France won the gold medal, and again in the EuroVolley 2026 final, where Poland reversed the outcome with a 3–1 victory. That second match gave Poland both the European title and the continent’s direct LA28 berth.

The matchup also represents two very different roster-management situations in 2026. Poland entered the European Championship with a broad pool containing many established international players, while France had intentionally rested several double Olympic champions and committed much of the season to a younger group. Reaching the same final despite those different trajectories made the EuroVolley meeting particularly significant for the French rebuild.

Italy has been another recurring reference within Europe’s top group. France has met Italy across Olympic, VNL and continental cycles, and the two programs have regularly occupied the same upper tier of European competition. Italy’s back-to-back 2022 and 2025 world titles and France’s back-to-back Olympic championships give meetings between the teams particular relevance in the current period.

Slovenia also carries historical importance for modern France. France defeated Slovenia to win its first European Championship in 2015, while both teams have remained frequent participants in the late stages of European and VNL competition.

These matchups are best understood through specific tournament context rather than as permanent rankings of national programs. France’s personnel changed considerably in 2026, and future meetings may again involve Olympic veterans who were absent during the current season.

Qualification Path & Tournament Cycle

France has already secured one of its two major future-event objectives: qualification for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup.

The 2026 continental championships awarded global-championship places to the highest eligible teams. France secured its European berth by advancing through the EuroVolley quarterfinals and ultimately finished second behind Poland. Finland and Slovenia also earned European qualification places, while Poland qualifies as host.

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification picture remains open.

Under the current system, the five 2026 continental champions receive Olympic quota places. Poland won Europe’s direct berth. The next three LA28 places will be awarded at the 2027 World Cup to the three highest-finishing teams that have not already qualified. Three final places will then be allocated through the FIVB World Ranking after the preliminary phase of the 2028 VNL, again excluding teams already qualified.

France therefore has a clear next opportunity: the 2027 World Cup. A medal position there can secure LA28 qualification without requiring France to wait for the final ranking pathway.

The current No. 8 world ranking does not itself constitute Olympic qualification. The ranking becomes a qualification mechanism only at the specified point in 2028 and only for remaining eligible teams. France’s current ranking is important competitive context, but it should not be presented as an Olympic place.

This distinction is especially relevant because Giani entered 2026 openly describing Olympic qualification as the season group’s long-term objective. At that time he identified three routes: winning the European Championship, reaching the required level at the next global championship, or relying on a sufficiently high final ranking. France missed the first route by one match but remains alive in the second and third.

France in 2026

As of October 3, 2026, France is the reigning back-to-back Olympic champion, the EuroVolley 2026 silver medalist, ranked No. 8 in the world, and qualified for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup. Andrea Giani remains head coach, Antoine Brizard is captain and Trévor Clevenot is vice-captain. France has not yet qualified for Los Angeles 2028.

The competitive results show both sides of the transition. France’s 2026 VNL ended outside the Finals, and the official final standings place the team 11th. Two months later, much of the same development cycle produced a European Championship final.

The personnel picture is equally important. Brizard and Clevenot are now responsible for leading the senior group, while Mathis Henno, Iyegbekedo, Huetz, Pothron, Ramon, Magnin and others accumulated substantial international experience. Duflos-Rossi moved from outside the original April group into the final European Championship roster, illustrating that the new core is still open to movement based on performance, health and tournament needs.

At the same time, the 2026 season should not be interpreted as a definitive retirement of France’s entire Olympic core. Ngapeth, Grebennikov, Patry, Chinenyeze, Le Goff and Louati took a summer break rather than announcing international retirement. Whether some or all of them return will materially change France’s depth and tactical choices before the 2027 World Cup.

The current cycle is therefore not simply a replacement of the double Olympic champions. It is an attempt to build another layer underneath and around them so that France does not reach LA28 dependent on exactly the same group that carried Tokyo and Paris.

Recent Performance Snapshot

Date / Competition

Result

Context

September 26, 2026 — CEV EuroVolley Final

France 1–3 Poland

France earned silver and qualification for the 2027 World Cup; Poland secured the European title and direct LA28 berth.

September 25, 2026 — CEV EuroVolley Semifinal

France 3–1 Finland

France reached its sixth European Championship final.

July 2026 — Volleyball Nations League

11th overall

France finished the preliminary phase 10th at 6–6 and did not advance to the Finals; official final standings list France 11th.

September 2025 — FIVB Men’s World Championship

18th

France defeated South Korea but lost five-set matches to Finland and Argentina and exited in the opening phase.

August 2024 — Paris Olympic Games

Gold

France successfully defended its Olympic championship on home soil.

June 2024 — Volleyball Nations League

Gold

France won its second VNL championship before the Paris Olympics.

The 2026 European result is particularly important when read against the previous twelve months. France moved from an 18th-place World Championship finish and an unsuccessful VNL qualification campaign to a major continental final with a substantially changed senior group.

FAQ

Who is the head coach of France’s men’s national volleyball team?

Andrea Giani is the current head coach. He has led France since 2022 and coached the team to VNL titles in 2022 and 2024, the Paris 2024 Olympic championship and the EuroVolley 2026 silver medal. Official EuroVolley match sheets continued to list him as head coach in September 2026.

Who is France’s current captain?

Antoine Brizard is France’s current captain. Andrea Giani appointed him before the 2026 international season after Benjamin Toniutti retired from international volleyball. Trévor Clevenot became vice-captain.

What is France’s current FIVB World Ranking?

France is No. 8 in the latest official ranking context checked on October 3, 2026. Because FIVB ranking values change with eligible international matches, that number should be treated as a current snapshot rather than a permanent team attribute.

Is France qualified for Los Angeles 2028?

No. France has not yet qualified for LA28. Poland won Europe’s direct berth by defeating France in the EuroVolley 2026 final. France’s next direct opportunity is the 2027 World Cup, where the three highest-finishing teams not already qualified will receive Olympic places.

Is France qualified for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup?

Yes. France secured qualification through EuroVolley 2026 and eventually finished second behind Poland. Finland and Slovenia also earned European qualification places, while Poland qualifies as host.

How many players are in France’s current 2026 national-team pool?

The canonical broad group used here contains 20 players, announced by Andrea Giani and FFVolley on April 17, 2026. Giani said he intended to work with that group across the international season. Individual VNL and EuroVolley squads were smaller and changed according to competition needs.

Why are players such as Earvin Ngapeth and Jenia Grebennikov not in the current pool table?

Ngapeth, Grebennikov, Jean Patry, Yacine Louati, Barthélémy Chinenyeze and Nicolas Le Goff requested an international break for the 2026 summer. Giani accepted their requests while using the season to develop younger players. Their 2026 absence should not be interpreted as a confirmed international retirement.

Why is Noa Duflos-Rossi in the EuroVolley roster but not the current-pool table?

The current-pool table represents the broad 20-player season group announced in April. Duflos-Rossi was later selected for the 14-player EuroVolley roster. His tournament selection is therefore recorded in the EuroVolley section without retroactively replacing the scope of the original broad pool.

How many Olympic titles has France won in men’s volleyball?

France has won two Olympic men’s volleyball titles, at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. They are the first two Olympic medals in the men’s program’s history and were won consecutively.

Has France ever won the Men’s World Championship?

No. France’s best result is bronze in 2002. That remains its only medal at the competition.

What is France’s best VNL result?

France has won the Volleyball Nations League twice, in 2022 and 2024. It also won silver in 2018 and bronze in 2021.

How many European Championships has France won?

France has won the European Championship once, in 2015.
