Marcelo Méndez’s tenure, which included the Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medal and the country’s first South American title in 59 years, ended after the 2025 World Championship, and Horacio Dileo moved into the head-coach role for the new cycle. The change was designed around continuity rather than a complete reset: Dileo had previously worked alongside Méndez, Luciano De Cecco remained available at setter, Agustín Loser assumed the captaincy, and established internationals such as Martín Ramos, Luciano Palonsky and Luciano Vicentín continued alongside a much wider group of developing senior players.

The first season of that transition produced a mixed competitive picture. Argentina finished the 2026 VNL preliminary phase 15th with three wins from 12 matches and did not reach the Finals, then rebuilt toward the tournament that mattered most to its Olympic pathway. At the South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Argentina reached the decisive meeting with Brazil unbeaten but lost 3–0, finishing second. The result secured qualification for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup but left Brazil with South America’s direct Los Angeles 2028 Olympic berth. Argentina remains No. 14 in the FIVB World Ranking and now has to pursue Olympic qualification through the 2027 global championship or the final ranking pathway in 2028.

Team Information

Field

Detail

Official Team Name

Argentina Men’s National Volleyball Team

Native Name

Selección Argentina masculina de voleibol

Country

Argentina

Gender

Men

National Federation

Federación del Voleibol Argentino (FeVA)

FIVB Code

ARG

Region / Confederation

South America — CSV

Head Coach

Horacio Dileo

Captain

Agustín Loser

FIVB World Ranking

No. 14 — snapshot checked October 4, 2026 — View full FIVB rankings

Current National-Team Cycle

2026–28 / Los Angeles 2028 cycle

Los Angeles 2028 Status

Not yet qualified

2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup

Qualified — 2026 South American Championship runner-up

Olympic Best Result

Bronze — Seoul 1988, Tokyo 2020

World Championship Best Result

Bronze — 1982

Volleyball Nations League Best Result

5th — 2023

FIVB World League Best Result

4th — 2011

South American Championship Best Result

Champions — 1964, 2023

Pan American Games

Gold — 1995, 2015, 2019

Official Team Hub

FeVA — Selección Nacional Masculina

Federation Website

Federación del Voleibol Argentino

Federation Instagram

Voleibol Argentino — Instagram

Federation X

Voleibol Argentino — X

Federation Facebook

Voleibol Argentino — Facebook

Dileo officially succeeded Méndez for the period beginning in 2026. His appointment was explicitly framed by FeVA as a continuation of the work developed during the previous cycle rather than a break from it. Dileo had served as Méndez’s assistant earlier in the program and returned to the staff in 2025 before becoming head coach. In February 2026, he described the season as a process of constructing the team toward its main target, Olympic qualification.

Loser is the current documented captain. FeVA identified him as captain when he joined the squad for the second week of the 2026 VNL, and the leadership role continued into the decisive continental phase. De Cecco, who captained Argentina through much of the Méndez era and the 2023 South American title, remains one of the team’s central tactical figures without being treated here as the current captain.

Team History & Development

Argentina’s place in international men’s volleyball has been shaped by distinct peaks rather than uninterrupted dominance. The first came on home soil at the 1982 FIVB Men’s World Championship, when Argentina finished third behind the Soviet Union and Brazil. It was the country’s first global senior medal and remains its best World Championship result.

Six years later, many of the players associated with that generation contributed to another breakthrough at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games. Argentina took bronze, establishing the first Olympic podium in the history of the men’s program. Players from that era, including Hugo Conte and Daniel Castellani, became reference points for later generations, while Castellani would eventually return as national-team head coach.

The decades that followed contained strong tournament finishes without another global medal. Argentina reached fourth place at Sydney 2000 and fifth at Athens 2004, London 2012 and Rio 2016. The national team also won the Pan American Games in 1995, 2015 and 2019 and remained Brazil’s main historical challenger within South America. Its best FIVB World League result was fourth place in 2011.

A new medal cycle developed under Marcelo Méndez, who took charge in 2019. That group was built around the playmaking of Luciano De Cecco and included Facundo Conte, Bruno Lima, Sebastián Solé, Agustín Loser, Martín Ramos, Luciano Palonsky, Santiago Danani and other players who would become central to Argentina’s most important result in more than three decades.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, played in 2021, Argentina recovered from defeats in its opening two matches, reached the knockout rounds and eventually defeated Brazil 3–2 in the bronze-medal match. The result ended a 33-year wait for a second Olympic medal. Conte scored 21 points in the bronze-medal match, while Loser produced 14, including seven blocks.

The same generation continued long enough to reshape Argentina’s continental record. In 2023, Argentina defeated Brazil in straight sets in Recife and won the South American Championship for only the second time. Its previous title had come in 1964. Luciano Vicentín was named tournament MVP, while De Cecco and Nicolás Zerba also made the Dream Team.

The 2025 World Championship became the final major tournament of Méndez’s tenure. Argentina won all three pool matches, including a five-set victory over Olympic champion France, before falling 3–0 to defending world champion Italy in the round of 16. FeVA subsequently listed Argentina ninth overall.

Dileo therefore inherited a national team with an unusual combination of continuity and turnover. De Cecco, Loser, Ramos, Palonsky and Vicentín remain connected to the established senior core, but younger players including Manuel Armoa, Fausto Díaz, Germán Gómez, Lucas Conde, Federico Debonis and teenage setter Nehuén D’Aversa are increasingly part of the selection structure. The transition is less about replacing one generation on a fixed date than redistributing responsibility before the next Olympic qualification phase.

Argentina at the Olympic Games

Argentina has won two Olympic men’s volleyball medals, both bronze: Seoul 1988 and Tokyo 2020.

The first established Argentina as a genuine world-level contender during the strongest period of its early history. The second arrived 33 years later and carried a different kind of significance. Argentina had repeatedly finished near the Olympic podium in the intervening decades, including fourth at Sydney 2000 and fifth in three later editions, but had not converted those performances into another medal.

Tokyo changed that. Méndez’s team survived a difficult pool, beat Italy in a five-set quarterfinal, lost to France in the semifinal and then defeated Brazil in another five-set match for bronze. The campaign combined De Cecco’s distribution with Conte’s experience, Lima’s scoring, Loser and Solé in the middle and a defensive structure capable of extending rallies against teams with more physical size.

Argentina returned to the Olympics at Paris 2024, having qualified through the FIVB World Ranking, but did not reproduce the Tokyo run and exited in the preliminary phase. That tournament also accelerated the end of one phase of the roster. Conte closed his national-team career, while De Cecco’s long-term role became a year-to-year question rather than something that could simply be assumed through 2028.

The route to Los Angeles 2028 is now open rather than secured. Argentina had the opportunity to qualify directly by winning the 2026 South American Championship, but Brazil took the continental berth with its 3–0 victory in Rio. Argentina’s remaining opportunities are connected to the 2027 global championship and the final FIVB World Ranking qualification stage in 2028.

World Championship & Other Global Competitions

Argentina’s best World Championship result remains the bronze medal from 1982. The tournament was held in Argentina, with the Soviet Union defeating Brazil for gold and the host nation completing the podium. It remains Argentina’s only medal at the senior men’s World Championship.

The national team has nevertheless been a regular participant at world level. By the 2025 edition it had accumulated 13 World Championship appearances, including a long uninterrupted modern run after returning to the tournament in 1978.

The 2025 World Championship in the Philippines produced one of the more unusual tournaments of the late Méndez era. Argentina defeated Finland 3–2, South Korea 3–1 and France 3–2 to complete an undefeated pool phase. The France match was particularly significant because it secured progression against the reigning Olympic champion. Italy then ended the run in the round of 16, winning 25–23, 25–20, 25–22. Argentina finished ninth overall.

Argentina has already qualified for the next global championship, the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup, through the 2026 South American Championship. Brazil, Argentina and Chile claimed the three CSV qualification places.

The tournament is also central to Argentina’s Olympic route. Because Brazil already owns South America’s direct LA28 berth, Argentina will arrive at the 2027 competition with the possibility of securing an Olympic place through the global qualification mechanism rather than waiting for the final 2028 ranking allocation.

Argentina in the Volleyball Nations League

Argentina has never reached the VNL podium, but its best campaign remains 2023, when it finished fifth overall. The team went 9–3 in the preliminary phase, earned 26 points and qualified for the Finals before losing to Italy in the quarterfinals. Loser led the competition in blocking during the preliminary phase, while Palonsky was Argentina’s leading scorer and De Cecco remained one of the tournament’s leading setters.

The 2026 VNL had a very different purpose and outcome. It was Dileo’s first major tournament as head coach and began with a broad 28-player FeVA selection from which smaller weekly lineups were chosen. Loser did not play the first week and joined the group in Poland for Week 2, reinforcing why the VNL weekly rosters should not be treated as Argentina’s permanent annual squad.

Argentina finished the preliminary phase 15th at 3–9 with 10 standings points, winning against Germany, China and Canada. The official final ordering placed Argentina 16th after the Finals were completed.

There were still useful individual and tactical indicators inside the results. Luciano Vicentín became the most consistent high-volume scorer in the group, while Loser, Zerba and other middles gave Dileo several blocking combinations. Argentina also participated in one of the season’s most unusual matches against Poland, with the opening set reaching 50–48 before the Poles eventually won 3–1.

The 2026 VNL therefore did not provide the ranking gains Argentina wanted, but it gave Dileo a competitive environment in which to test a larger selection before narrowing the group for the South American Championship.

South American Championship Record

Argentina’s men have spent most of their continental history competing in the shadow of Brazil’s extraordinary South American record. That context makes Argentina’s two titles particularly significant.

The first came in 1964, in the only edition of the period in which Brazil did not compete. Argentina then waited 59 years for another championship.

The breakthrough finally arrived in 2023. Argentina entered the final match in Recife needing to defeat host Brazil and produced a straight-set victory. The title ended Brazil’s run of 28 consecutive continental championships and established the Méndez generation as more than an Olympic medal team. Vicentín’s MVP award was also an early indication that responsibility was beginning to shift toward players younger than the Tokyo core.

The 2026 South American Championship carried even greater consequences because the champion would qualify directly for Los Angeles 2028, while the top three teams would qualify for the 2027 World Cup.

Argentina defeated Venezuela, Colombia, Chile and Bolivia to set up a winner-take-all final meeting with Brazil. The hosts were stronger in the decisive match, winning 25–20, 25–23, 25–20. Brazil’s serve and transition game repeatedly disrupted Argentina, and Dileo attempted different attacking combinations, including using Palonsky at opposite during the third set. Loser and libero Franco Massimino were later selected to the tournament’s ideal team.

2026 South American Championship Roster — Event-Specific

This was Argentina’s 14-player tournament roster for the 2026 South American Championship. That distribution gives Dileo significantly more options than any single tournament squad can accommodate. It also shows why the current Argentina team is better described as a gradual redistribution of roles than a clean generational break.

Several 2026/27 moves are especially relevant to the new cycle. De Cecco moved to Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, while Sánchez and Tomás López remained together at Montpellier. Giraudo and Ramos are with Tourcoing. Palonsky joined Suntory Sunbirds Osaka, Vicentín stayed with Tokyo Great Bears, Jan Martínez moved to Dileo’s Vôlei Renata and Armoa joined Sada Cruzeiro. Loser remains with Perugia, Zerba moved to Berlin, while Maciel and Gómez are together at Friedrichshafen. Kukartsev joined Norwid Częstochowa, Gallego moved to Guaguas and Massimino continued at Stade Poitevin.

The youngest names widen the time horizon of the pool. D’Aversa was only 17 during the 2026 season, while Federico Debonis was also among the youngest players registered for the VNL. Their inclusion should not be read as evidence that they have already displaced Argentina’s senior setters or outside hitters; it shows that Dileo’s selection structure extends beyond the players most likely to appear in a final 14-player roster.

Coaching Staff

Dileo’s first-year staff combines coaches already familiar with the national-team environment and specialists responsible for the physical, analytical and medical support of the group. In his February 2026 interview, Dileo outlined the core structure accompanying him through the season.

Role

Name

Organization / Club

Head Coach

Horacio Dileo

FeVA

Assistant Coach

Fabián Muraco

FeVA

Assistant Coach

Alejandro Aldana

FeVA

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Mariano Dellavalle

FeVA

Statistician

Matías Coria

FeVA

Medical / Physiotherapy

Fernando Locaso

FeVA

Medical / Physiotherapy

Nicolás Alvez

FeVA

Medical / Physiotherapy

Juan Cheulani

FeVA

Medical / Physiotherapy

Carlos Trolla

FeVA

Team Manager

Esteban Simaro

FeVA

Men’s Team Director

Pablo Lueje

FeVA

Dileo’s relationship with Méndez is relevant to understanding the transition. He explained that Méndez has no formal national-team role because of his club responsibilities but remains a trusted professional contact. That continuity helps explain why Argentina’s 2026 structure has not discarded the systems or personnel associated with the Tokyo cycle simply because the head coach changed.

Playing Identity & Team Style

Argentina’s current style still carries several elements associated with the previous generation, but Dileo has more lineup variation available than a description based only on the Tokyo medal team would suggest.

The setter position remains the clearest source of tactical continuity. De Cecco offers exceptional experience in controlling tempo and creating one-on-one attacking opportunities, while Matías Sánchez provides a smaller, fast-tempo alternative. Giraudo and Arquez broaden the senior depth, and D’Aversa represents a much longer-term option. The presence of five setters in the broad pool gives Dileo room to manage both the immediate qualification cycle and succession beyond it.

The attacking structure is increasingly less dependent on the retired Facundo Conte generation. Vicentín has become one of Argentina’s primary high-volume scorers, while Palonsky, Armoa, Jan Martínez and the younger Díaz offer different combinations of reception, physicality and back-row attack. Vicentín was Argentina’s central attacking reference through much of the 2026 VNL and remained the leading Argentine scorer in the South American final.

Middle-blocker depth is another defining strength of the current pool. Loser combines international experience with the captaincy, while Ramos, Zerba, Gallego, Salazar and Maciel give Argentina multiple options for blocking matchups and first-tempo attack. Loser’s importance extends beyond the middle position itself: his ability to score from quick attack, close blocks and contribute from the service line makes him one of the players around whom the current team can stabilize difficult rotations.

The 2026 South American final also showed where Argentina still needs greater consistency. Brazil repeatedly created separation through serve pressure, transition attack and blocking, particularly early in sets. Argentina could recover portions of those deficits but struggled to maintain its side-out and counterattack quality for long enough to reverse the match. Dileo’s decision to move Palonsky to opposite during the third set also illustrated a willingness to alter positional balance when the standard configuration was not producing enough pressure.

Dileo has described team construction in terms of recognizing strengths, hiding weaknesses and arriving at the decisive part of the season with the right collective structure. That makes the current tactical identity less fixed than Argentina’s historical reputation might suggest. The 2026–28 team is still being shaped around setter quality, active middle-blocker involvement, flexible wing combinations and the need for more stable serve-reception performance against elite opponents.

Major Honors

Competition

Best / Major Results

Olympic Games

Bronze: Seoul 1988, Tokyo 2020

FIVB Men’s World Championship

Bronze: 1982

Volleyball Nations League

5th: 2023

FIVB World League

4th: 2011

South American Championship

Gold: 1964, 2023; Silver: multiple editions including 2026

Pan American Games

Gold: 1995, 2015, 2019

Argentina’s two Olympic medals define its global record. The 1988 bronze came from the same broad historical generation that followed the 1982 World Championship breakthrough, while the Tokyo medal arrived after more than three decades of near misses.

The 2023 South American title has a different place in the program’s history. It did not equal an Olympic or World Championship medal in global weight, but defeating Brazil in Brazil and ending a 59-year title drought gave the Méndez generation a major continental achievement to accompany its Olympic bronze.

Notable Players Across Generations

Player

Position

Era / Years

Note

Hugo Conte

Outside Hitter

1980s–2000

Key figure of the generation that won 1982 World Championship bronze and 1988 Olympic bronze.

Daniel Castellani

Middle Blocker

1980s–1990s

Medalist at both the 1982 World Championship and Seoul 1988; later coached Argentina.

Waldo Kantor

Setter

1980s

Important playmaker of Argentina’s first Olympic-medal generation.

Marcos Milinkovic

Opposite

1990s–2000s

Long-serving attacking reference through multiple Olympic and international cycles.

Luciano De Cecco

Setter

2000s–present

Tokyo Olympic bronze-medal captain, 2023 South American champion and one of the defining setters of Argentina’s modern era.

Facundo Conte

Outside Hitter

2000s–2024

Tokyo bronze medalist and major scorer of the 2023 South American championship team.

Sebastián Solé

Middle Blocker

2010s–2020s

Central member of Argentina’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze-medal lineup.

Agustín Loser

Middle Blocker

Late 2010s–present

Tokyo bronze medalist, 2023 South American champion and current national-team captain.

Luciano Vicentín

Outside Hitter

Late 2010s–present

2023 South American Championship MVP and a leading scorer in the current cycle.

Luciano Palonsky

Outside Hitter

Late 2010s–present

Major wing option across the later Méndez era and the first Dileo season.

De Cecco is the clearest bridge between Argentina’s recent eras. He made his senior national-team debut in 2006, eventually captained the team back to the Olympic podium and remained in the 2026 pool after the coaching transition. His presence allows Dileo to introduce younger players without immediately removing one of the team’s most experienced decision-makers.

Loser and Vicentín represent the next transfer of responsibility. Both were already important before Dileo took charge, but Loser’s captaincy and Vicentín’s expanding scoring role place them more clearly at the center of the current cycle.

Rivalries & Key Matchups

Brazil is the defining rivalry in Argentina’s men’s national-team history. The imbalance in South American title totals is enormous, but several of Argentina’s most important achievements have come directly against Brazil. Argentina defeated Brazil for Olympic bronze at Tokyo, then swept the Brazilians in Recife to win the 2023 South American title. Brazil answered in 2026, reclaiming the continental championship and taking the direct LA28 berth with a straight-set victory in Rio.

The matchup therefore carries both historical and immediate qualification significance. Argentina does not need to match Brazil’s continental trophy count for the rivalry to matter; Brazil is repeatedly the opponent standing between Argentina and the region’s most valuable direct qualification routes.

Italy has also become a meaningful global matchup. Argentina eliminated Italy in a five-set quarterfinal on the way to the Tokyo Olympic bronze medal, while Italy reversed that outcome in the round of 16 at the 2025 World Championship. The contrast between those tournaments captures Argentina’s challenge at the highest level: it has repeatedly shown that it can defeat elite European teams, but doing so consistently across an entire global championship remains more difficult.

France has provided another recurring benchmark. Argentina defeated the reigning Olympic champions in a decisive five-set pool match at the 2025 World Championship and has produced other important wins over France during recent VNL cycles. These matches are better treated as competitive reference points than as a rivalry with the same historical depth as Brazil.

Qualification Path & Tournament Cycle

Argentina is qualified for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup but not yet qualified for Los Angeles 2028.

The distinction is important. The 2026 South American Championship awarded the continental Olympic berth only to the champion. Brazil claimed that place. Argentina’s runner-up finish still secured one of South America’s three places at the 2027 World Cup, alongside Brazil and Chile.

That leaves two practical Olympic routes for Argentina.

The first is the 2027 World Cup, where the highest-finishing eligible teams that have not already qualified will earn Olympic quota places. Argentina’s qualification for that tournament therefore gives Dileo’s team a direct opportunity to reach LA28 without depending on the final ranking allocation.

The second is the FIVB World Ranking after the preliminary phase of the 2028 VNL, when the remaining Olympic places will be distributed among eligible teams. Argentina’s current No. 14 position does not itself qualify the team, but the number becomes meaningful once nations already qualified through other routes are removed from the competition for the remaining ranking berths.

This makes ranking points accumulated during future VNL matches materially important. Argentina fell from the top ten over the course of the first Dileo season, and the 3–9 VNL record limited the cushion available before the next qualification phase. The 2027 season therefore has two overlapping objectives: perform at a global championship capable of delivering a direct Olympic berth and rebuild enough ranking strength to preserve a second route into 2028.

Argentina in 2026

As of October 4, 2026, Argentina is No. 14 in the FIVB World Ranking, the reigning South American runner-up, qualified for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup, and still seeking qualification for Los Angeles 2028.

The first season under Dileo did not reproduce Argentina’s strongest results from the previous cycle. A 3–9 VNL record left the team outside the Finals, and losing the continental decider to Brazil removed the simplest Olympic qualification route.

At the same time, the current picture is broader than those two results. Dileo worked from a 28-player senior long list, restored players including Martín Ramos, Tomás López, Franco Massimino and Santiago Arroyo to the selection structure, and gave younger names access to senior training and competition. The South American Championship roster then narrowed back toward a more experienced group when qualification became the immediate priority.

The club landscape should also help the program maintain high-level exposure. Most of the established core will spend 2026/27 in major leagues across Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Japan, Brazil, Spain and Russia. De Cecco, Loser, Palonsky, Vicentín, Armoa, Zerba and others will return to the national team after seasons in high-level professional environments, while younger domestic players continue competing for a place in the senior hierarchy.

The central question before 2027 is therefore not whether Argentina has begun a completely new generation. It has not. The more accurate description is a transition in leadership and responsibility: Méndez has left the head-coach position, Loser has inherited the captaincy, De Cecco remains available, and Dileo is trying to build enough depth around the established core to prevent the next Olympic campaign from depending on exactly the same players who carried Tokyo and the 2023 continental title.

Recent Performance Snapshot

Date / Competition

Result

Context

September 20, 2026 — South American Championship

Argentina 0–3 Brazil

Argentina finished runner-up and qualified for the 2027 World Cup; Brazil took the South American LA28 berth.

September 2026 — South American Championship

2nd place

Four wins before the deciding loss to Brazil; Loser and Massimino made the tournament ideal team.

June–July 2026 — Volleyball Nations League

15th in preliminary phase; 16th final ordering

Argentina went 3–9 with wins over Germany, China and Canada and missed the Finals.

September 21, 2025 — World Championship Round of 16

Argentina 0–3 Italy

Argentina exited after an undefeated group phase and finished ninth overall.

August 31, 2023 — South American Championship

Argentina 3–0 Brazil

Argentina won its second continental title and first since 1964.

August 7, 2021 — Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Argentina 3–2 Brazil

Argentina won bronze, its first Olympic medal in 33 years.

The contrast between 2025 and 2026 is useful context. Argentina ended the Méndez era still capable of beating France at a World Championship and ranked inside the global top ten. The first Dileo season expanded the candidate pool but also exposed how quickly ranking position can change when VNL results deteriorate. The next phase is about converting that broader selection into a more stable high-level team.

FAQ

Who is the head coach of Argentina’s men’s national volleyball team?

Horacio Dileo is the current head coach. FeVA appointed him to succeed Marcelo Méndez beginning with the 2026 cycle. Dileo had previously worked with Méndez and returned to the national-team staff in 2025 before becoming head coach.

Who is Argentina’s current captain?

Agustín Loser is Argentina’s current captain. FeVA explicitly identified him as captain during the 2026 VNL season, and he remained a central leader during the South American Championship.

What is Argentina’s current FIVB World Ranking?

Argentina is No. 14 in the current ranking snapshot checked on October 4, 2026. The official Volleyball World ranking page remains the authoritative live source; Argentina was also listed 14th in the official pre-South American Championship ranking context and remained 14th in the early-October table.

Is Argentina qualified for Los Angeles 2028?

No. Argentina had a direct opportunity through the 2026 South American Championship but finished second to Brazil, which claimed the continent’s Olympic quota. Argentina can still qualify through the 2027 World Cup or the final FIVB World Ranking pathway in 2028.

Is Argentina qualified for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup?

Yes. Argentina secured one of South America’s three places by finishing in the top three at the 2026 continental championship and ultimately took silver behind Brazil. Chile qualified in third place.

How many players are in Argentina’s current 2026 national-team pool?

The canonical broad pool contains 28 players, the long list announced by FeVA for the 2026 VNL and the beginning of Dileo’s first international season. Individual VNL weeks and the South American Championship used smaller competition-specific selections.

Why are there players in the 28-player pool who were not at the South American Championship?

The 28-player list represents the wider senior selection for the season. The South American Championship roster contained only 14 players and was selected specifically for that tournament. A player’s absence from the 14 does not automatically remove him from the broader 2026 pool.

Is Luciano De Cecco still part of Argentina’s national team?

Yes. De Cecco remained in the 2026 broad pool and played at the South American Championship. Agustín Loser, however, is the current captain, so De Cecco’s previous captaincy should not be carried forward automatically into the present cycle.

How many Olympic medals has Argentina won in men’s volleyball?

Argentina has won two Olympic bronze medals, at Seoul 1988 and Tokyo 2020. The Tokyo medal ended a 33-year wait for a return to the Olympic podium.

Has Argentina ever won the Men’s World Championship?

No. Argentina’s best World Championship result is bronze in 1982, when the tournament was held in Argentina.

What is Argentina’s best VNL result?

Argentina’s best Volleyball Nations League result is fifth place in 2023. The team finished the preliminary phase with nine wins before losing to Italy in the quarterfinals.

How many South American Championships has Argentina won?

Argentina has won the men’s South American Championship twice, in 1964 and 2023.
