Early Life & Volleyball Beginnings

Bergmann was born in Munich to a Brazilian mother and a German father. His older sister, Júlia Bergmann, also became a professional outside hitter and represents Brazil internationally. Both siblings were born in Germany before the family moved to Brazil in 2011.

The family eventually established itself in Toledo, Paraná. Sport was already part of the Bergmann household: their parents played volleyball recreationally, and Lukas and Júlia were exposed to several sports while growing up. The siblings have spoken about swimming and other activities being part of their childhood before volleyball became the path they pursued most seriously.

Bergmann’s dual background has remained part of his public identity. He holds German and Brazilian nationality, but chose to represent Brazil in international volleyball, the same decision made by his sister.

His development accelerated once he entered the SESI system. Bergmann joined SESI at 17 in 2021 and was already training with the senior group while continuing through age-group competition. That same year he received his first call-up to Brazil’s under-19 national team.

Brazilian youth competition gave him a route toward senior volleyball without requiring an immediate move abroad. At 204 cm, Bergmann had unusual height for an outside hitter while still developing the reception and back-row responsibilities required at the position. By the time he reached his late teens, he was moving between youth national-team volleyball and an increasingly significant role at SESI Bauru.

Club Career

Bergmann’s senior club career began at SESI Bauru, where he developed from a teenage prospect into a starting outside hitter and Brazilian champion.

Breaking Through at SESI Bauru

Bergmann entered the SESI project in 2021 and spent the next four domestic seasons with the organization. His early years included time alongside experienced players such as Murilo Endres and Éder Carbonera, while the emergence of younger teammates gradually reshaped Bauru into one of the most competitive teams in Brazil.

The 2023–24 season marked his major breakthrough.

SESI Bauru entered the Superliga playoffs after finishing third in the regular season and ultimately reached the final against Vôlei Renata. Bauru won the championship, giving Bergmann his first senior Brazilian league title.

His individual season was recognized as well. Bergmann was selected as one of the Superliga’s best outside hitters and received the league’s revelation award. SESI later noted that he finished sixth among the competition’s scorers despite playing a position that also required substantial serve-receive responsibility.

The championship changed his status from a promising developmental player to an established starter in one of Brazil’s strongest teams.

SESI renewed his contract for 2024–25, and Bergmann remained heavily involved in the offense. He scored 322 points during the Superliga regular and playoff campaign, finishing as the club’s second major wing-scoring option behind Darlan Souza and among the higher scorers in the league. SESI credited him with 27 aces and four VivaVôlei match-MVP awards during the season.

The team did not repeat its 2024 national title, but Bergmann left Brazil with four years of senior experience, an Olympic appearance and a Superliga championship already on his record.

First Season Abroad with Piacenza

Bergmann moved to Europe in 2025, signing with Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza for his first season outside Brazilian club volleyball.

The transition placed him in the Italian SuperLega, where Piacenza already had several options on the wing. Bergmann shared the outside-hitter group with players including Efe Mandiracı, José Miguel Gutiérrez and Robbert Andringa rather than occupying the same high-volume role he had held at SESI.

His league usage consequently varied. Volleyball World recorded 64 points for Bergmann in the 2025–26 SuperLega, including 52 attack points and nine aces. One of his strongest league performances came against Grottazzolina in January 2026, when he started and scored 15 points in a straight-sets Piacenza victory.

The season nevertheless gave him a major European title.

Piacenza reached the 2026 CEV Cup final against SVG Lüneburg. The Italian side won both legs in straight sets, securing the club’s first European trophy. Bergmann therefore completed his first European club season as a CEV Cup champion.

That year also provided a different type of development from his time in Brazil. At SESI he had become accustomed to a large offensive role; in Piacenza he competed for court time in a deep roster, trained in a different tactical environment and gained his first full season inside the Italian league system.

Move to Tinet Prata

After one season in Piacenza, Bergmann changed clubs within Italy.

Tinet Prata di Pordenone added him for the 2026–27 SuperLega campaign following the club’s promotion to the top division. Piacenza’s subsequent roster announcements confirmed his departure, while Prata built a new outside-hitter group around Bergmann, Efe Bayram, Jernej Terpin and other options.

The move offers a different opportunity from his season in Piacenza. Bergmann arrives at Prata with Brazilian national-team experience and one year of adaptation to Italian volleyball, but still at an age where regular top-level playing time is central to his development.

When he discussed the move, Bergmann identified energy, attacking and serving as qualities he hoped to bring to Prata while also acknowledging that he still had areas of his game to improve.

National Team Career

Bergmann’s progression with Brazil began in the youth program.

He received his first under-19 call-up in 2021, shortly after joining SESI. The following year he was part of Brazil’s under-21 setup and won the 2022 South American Under-21 Championship.

His transition toward senior international volleyball accelerated in 2023. Bergmann was called into the senior national-team environment at 19 and appeared in Brazil’s Olympic qualification campaign.

He was also part of the Brazilian team sent to the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. Brazil won the gold medal, giving Bergmann his first major senior international title. His 2023 season also included a silver medal at the Pan American Cup.

Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The 2024 international season moved Bergmann into Brazil’s Olympic group.

He appeared in five matches during the 2024 Volleyball Nations League, including significant minutes against the United States and Germany. SESI reported that he scored 30 points across the tournament.

Bernardinho subsequently selected him for Brazil’s Paris 2024 Olympic roster.

At 20, Bergmann was the youngest player on the Brazilian men’s team and one of two Bergmann siblings competing for Brazil in Paris. Júlia was simultaneously representing the women’s national team.

Brazil played in a difficult preliminary pool with Italy, Poland and Egypt. The team advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to the United States, finishing the tournament in eighth place.

The Games were Bergmann’s first Olympics and came only three years after his initial youth national-team call-up.

Becoming a Regular Senior National-Team Option

Bergmann remained with the senior program after Paris.

In the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, he became more involved in Brazil’s rotation. Volleyball World recorded 122 points for him during the competition, including 107 attack points, nine blocks and six aces.

Brazil reached the medal matches and defeated Slovenia 3–1 in the third-place playoff to take bronze. It was Brazil’s first VNL medal since winning the tournament in 2021 and added another senior international medal to Bergmann’s record.

He was also included in Brazil’s squad for the 2025 World Championship in the Philippines. The tournament ended much earlier than Brazil expected: two victories and a defeat left the team in a three-way tie in its preliminary pool, and Brazil was eliminated before the knockout rounds, finishing 17th.

Bergmann remained part of Brazil’s national-team group in 2026 and was listed among the outside hitters during that international season. His continued selection places him within a competitive generation of Brazilian wing attackers that also includes players such as Adriano Xavier, Arthur Bento and more experienced national-team options.

Playing Style & Strengths

Bergmann’s physical profile stands out immediately for his position. At 204 cm, he brings middle-blocker-like height to the outside-hitter role without being used purely as a front-row specialist.

That size gives him useful attacking angles against established blocks and provides additional reach at the net. His offense is especially effective when he can contact the ball high and attack above or around the outside hand of the block.

Serving has also become an important scoring element in his game. During the 2024–25 Brazilian Superliga season, SESI recorded 27 aces from Bergmann, placing him among the competition’s stronger servers. His height allows him to generate a high contact point, while an aggressive approach puts pressure on reception units even when the serve does not produce a direct ace.

His development as an all-around outside hitter is just as important as his physical advantages.

Unlike an opposite, Bergmann has regular serve-receive responsibilities. That means his value depends not only on terminating attacks but on helping stabilize first contact so that Brazil or his club can run its full offense. His move to Italy increased the importance of that part of his game, particularly in rotations against high-level jump servers.

Bergmann has described attacking and serving as two areas in which he expects to help Tinet Prata. Those strengths fit the visible profile of his game, but his long-term ceiling at outside hitter will also depend on continued progress in reception, defensive reading and consistency over extended periods.

His combination of height, serving ability and experience at a young age gives coaches several ways to use him. He can start as a conventional six-rotation outside hitter, provide size at the net or enter a match when a team wants to increase serving and attacking pressure.

Personal Life & Family

Lukas Bergmann’s family background connects Brazil and Germany.

He was born in Munich to a German father and Brazilian mother. His sister, Júlia Isabelle Bergmann, was also born in Munich and is three years older. The family moved from Germany to Brazil in 2011, when Lukas was seven.

Their parents were recreational volleyball players rather than professionals. Júlia has recalled that they met while playing volleyball in a Munich park and continued playing grass and beach volleyball for enjoyment, often bringing their children with them.

Lukas and Júlia initially experienced several sports rather than specializing immediately. Swimming was a significant part of their childhood, while volleyball gradually became the sport that both pursued competitively.

The siblings ultimately reached elite international volleyball through different routes. Lukas developed in Brazil and established himself through the SESI system, while Júlia later played NCAA volleyball at Georgia Tech in the United States before moving into the European professional game.

Both chose Brazil internationally despite their German birthplace and dual-national background.

Paris 2024 created a rare family moment. Lukas and Júlia both made their Olympic debuts at the same Games and were able to meet inside the Olympic Village while representing Brazil’s men’s and women’s teams.

Lukas has described that experience as a source of pride for the family and credited his parents for the encouragement that helped both children reach international volleyball.

Brazilian Olympic Committee material has also noted that German remains part of the Bergmann family’s everyday life: Lukas speaks German at home with his family, including Júlia.

Off the Court

Bergmann maintains a relatively volleyball-focused public profile.

His verified Instagram account, @lukasbergmann14, has followed his national-team career, SESI years, move to Italy and life around professional volleyball. The Brazilian Olympic Committee listed the same account in its official Paris 2024 athlete media material.

Interviews with Bergmann often return to development rather than celebrity interests. His comments around Brazil and his club career have emphasized learning from experienced teammates, training intensity and the need to keep improving despite reaching the Olympics at a young age.

During Paris 2024, he spoke about learning from senior Brazilian players such as Bruninho, Lucão and Lucarelli. Later, discussing his move to Tinet Prata, he again framed the new club as a place where he could grow while helping the team.

That approach fits the stage of his career. Bergmann has already played in an Olympics and won significant titles, but his professional career is still considerably younger than many of the players he has shared the court with for Brazil.

Where Is Lukas Bergmann Playing Now?

Lukas Bergmann plays for Tinet Prata di Pordenone in Italy’s SuperLega for the 2026–27 season.

He joined Prata in July 2026 after completing one season with Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza. His Piacenza spell ended with victory in the CEV Cup, the club’s first European trophy.

Prata entered the 2026–27 SuperLega as a newly promoted team and recruited Bergmann as part of a substantially rebuilt roster under head coach Simone Di Tommaso. Bergmann wears number 14.

The transfer keeps him in Italy’s top division but changes the context of his club career. Piacenza had a deep roster of international-level attackers, which limited Bergmann’s SuperLega court time during parts of 2025–26. Prata offers him the chance to compete for a larger role while remaining in one of the strongest domestic leagues in men’s volleyball.

Internationally, he remains an active Brazil player. He followed his Paris 2024 Olympic appearance with VNL bronze in 2025 and remained inside the senior national-team group in 2026.

Recent Performance Snapshot

Bergmann’s 2025–26 season was his first in European club volleyball.

Volleyball World recorded 64 points in the Italian SuperLega, with 52 coming in attack, nine from service and three from blocks. His best scoring performance in the league came against Grottazzolina in January 2026, when he produced 15 points in a 3–0 Piacenza victory.

His overall league volume was lower than it had been in Brazil because he was part of a crowded outside-hitter rotation. However, Piacenza also competed deep into Europe, eventually winning the CEV Cup.

The European final against SVG Lüneburg ended with Piacenza winning both matches 3–0. That title gave Bergmann a European trophy in his first season outside Brazil.

The 2026–27 campaign now moves him into a different competitive situation with Prata. Rather than evaluating his progress only through his lower-volume Piacenza league statistics, the next stage of his career will show how his game translates to a potentially larger role over a full SuperLega season.
